Artist Bio

Jude Emerson is a trans musician who believes music is a powerful force for storytelling, healing, and transformation. A lifelong artist, Jude has been making music since childhood — but this marks his first major performance since his transition.

The mission of the Great Busk holds special meaning for Jude. Growing up in a family that struggled to afford his music lessons, he knows firsthand how vital music education can be and thus believes everyone deserves the chance to find their voice through music.

With a sound shaped by bold, emotionally resonant artists like Stephen Wilson Jr., Sinéad O’Connor, and FINNEAS, Jude is honored to share his authentic voice with the Richmond community and support a cause so close to his heart.

More about the Great Busk

The Great Busk is more than a music competition—it's a celebration of immigrant voices and community creativity. Each performer you see is using their talent not just to shine, but to support something bigger: bilingual education, newcomer wellness, and access to opportunity and to arts education.

Every dollar you give goes toward free programs offered by Capaz+IT, helping immigrant youth and adults build skills, find careers, and tell their stories. Funds also go to help provide access to music education for all individuals in Richmond regardless of zip code or financial means.

And here's the twist: the artist who raises the most wins The Great Busk—so when you donate, you're not only supporting the cause, you're backing this performer’s journey.
